Our story

Founded in 1988 by Paule Boulanger, Les Ateliers Magny-Danse was born of the passion of a teacher who passed on her passion to a whole generation of equally passionate students. The school was set up as an NPO to promote mutual support, community spirit and the desire to make classes accessible to as many students as possible. For almost 10 years, the only style taught was ballet-jazz. Between 1998 and 2002, several other dance styles appeared at the school: breakdance, hip hop, jazz, ballet and oriental-baladi. Of these, only breakdance is no longer taught. Contemporary made its appearance a little later. The first dance camp was held in 2000 and quickly became a summer staple for young dancers. Initially created for children and teenagers, the school has modernized to offer dance classes for children aged 2 to 5, as well as for adults. From 2004 to 2015, the school introduced classes in awakening and creativity, oriental dance, zumba and jazz for adults. Today, classes for 2 to 5 year-olds, as well as oriental dance and multi-style adult classes, are must-haves for our customers. Over the years, there have been several Boards of Directors, many of whom have been marked by generous and creative individuals. One of these people is Ms. Andrée Lavallée, who served on the Board for 18 years and then became the school's director for 6 years. Les Ateliers Magny-Danse has always been on the lookout for talented individuals to join the teaching team, each bringing a new style and/or color to the table. The involvement of all these dedicated and passionate people has contributed to the growth of dance in Montmagny and made our school a reference in the region for 35 years.
